WHY DOODLES COST MORE
Doodle coats are dense, often double-layered, and prone to matting. A proper doodle groom takes 50–100% longer than a comparable single-coat dog and requires specialized de-shedding, drying, and finishing techniques. Our pricing reflects the actual time and product cost — and ensures your doodle leaves looking and feeling its best.

Frequently Asked Questions
How is pricing determined?
All grooming packages at Poodle Nook are priced by your dog’s weight, with separate pricing tiers for doodles and other curly or double-coated breeds whose coats require more time and product. Pricing ranges shown for the larger weight categories reflect coat condition, length, and styling complexity — a heavily coated 70-pound shepherd takes longer than a short-coated lab of the same weight. We always confirm the exact price at check-in after a quick coat assessment, so there are no surprises at pickup.
What if matting is present?
We assess matting carefully during your consultation. Light to moderate mats can usually be brushed out, but severe matting often needs to be shaved for the pet’s safety — pulling on mats causes pain and can damage skin. We’ll always explain options and pricing before starting, and we never charge extra time without telling you first.
Do you offer breed-specific cuts?
Yes — we groom to breed standard for poodles, schnauzers, terriers, cockers, and other breeds with traditional cuts, and we also do custom styling for doodles, mixed breeds, and pet-cut versions of any breed. Bringing reference photos is the fastest way to get exactly what you want, especially for length on legs, head shape, and ear styling. If you’re unsure what works for your dog’s coat type or lifestyle, our groomers will walk you through options at check-in.
How often should I groom my dog?
Most dogs do best on a 4- to 8-week grooming schedule, with the exact timing depending on coat type, length, and lifestyle. Doodles, poodles, and other curly-coated breeds need grooming every 4 to 6 weeks to prevent matting — sometimes more often if the coat is kept long. Short-coated breeds like labs, beagles, and pugs benefit from a bath and de-shedding every 6 to 8 weeks. Regular grooming isn’t just cosmetic — it keeps skin healthy, nails at safe lengths, and ears clean, all of which prevent bigger problems down the road.
